Pittsburgh Randonneurs

An Activity of the Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen

Randonneuring is a type of organised long distance bicycle riding, with rides typically covering between 100 and 1,200 kilometres (60-750 miles). A participant is known as a randonneur, and an event is a randonnée. The term brevet is used interchangeably with randonnée, although strictly speaking, a brevet is one specific type of event.

We have plans to submit these for RUSA sanctioning in 2009.

Several Key Points:

  1. For 2009, we require Western PA Wheelmen membership for all brevets ($17 annual).
  2. For more information on randonneuring and brevets, see the Randonneurs USA website at www.rusa.org.
  3. For 2009, Pittsburgh brevets are sanctioned by RUSA not ACP (Audax Club Parisien).  This matters if your goal is earning ACP medals (for example, either the 200 km medal or the Super Randonneur medal for a 200 km, 300 km, 400 km , 600 km series).  It also matters if you preparing for an event that requires ACP sanctioned rides.
  4. The Fall Rally 200 km collocated with the WPW Fall Rally event, is operated as a separate event with separate registration to comply with RUSA regulations.
  5. Just to keep things straight, RBAs are approved solely by RUSA, and Jim’s RBA responsibilities are separate from his WPW responsibilities.  However, for Pittsburgh brevets to succeed, he’ll need close coordination with the WPW.
